One of the worlds most interesting and amazing rock duo The White Stripes has announced that they’re splitting up and will do no more recordings or perform live.
“It is for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve What is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way.” – The White Stripes
”Both Meg and Jack hope this decision isn’t met with sorrow by their fans but that it is seen as a positive move done out of respect for the art and music that the band has created” – The White Stripes
The white stripes formed 1997 in Detroit, Michigan. The group consists of the songwriter Jack White (vocals, guitar, and keyboards) Meg White (drums and occasional vocals). Jack and Meg White were previously married to each other, but are now divorced. But since the very beginning they confused their fans for being brother and sister.
The white stripes signature dominates of the colors red, white and black witch they use in a very playful way. Some say the combination of the colors came from children’s toys or peppermint candy, and according to Jack is it "the most powerful color combination of all time, from a Coca-Cola can to a Nazi banner.”
No 3 also have a big role for The White Stripes. Jacks philosophy is that no 3 seem to be the perfect connection in life and created the band around it. Songwriting is storytelling, melody, and rhythm which ends up in 3. 3 colors, 3 instruments, 3 chords, Their music is based on blues and rock’n’roll and traditional blues songs have three lines per verse, which The White Stripes exemplify in many songs. Jack even started a record label called “Third man records”. And I guess he’s right, 3 is the magic number.
The White Stripes released 7 albums:
The White Stripes (1999) De Stijl (2000) White Blood Cells (2001) Elephant (2003) Get Behind Me Satan (2005) Icky Thump (2007) Under Great White Northern Lights (2010)
Singles from the albums among heaps of other good songs:
Lets shake hands, The big three killed my baby, Hotel Yorba, Fell in lve with a girl, Seven nation army, I just don know what to do with my self, The hardest button to button, My doorbell..
Bloody amazing albums, which all should be in everyone’s iTunes library.
I do respect their decision to split up and I really like their way of thinking about their music. But I can’t hide that I’m disappointed that I’ll never see them live. And It’s really a shame that such a playful, cool, groundbreaking band has dissolved. We will definitely see and hear more from Jack White with his other projects The Raconteurs and The dead weather. But I doubt that we’ll see more of sweet innocent Meg, which breaks my heart.
Anyway I will still live on the hope that one day The White Stripes will rise from the dead, reunite and make more of their awesome music and live performances.
Farewell The White Stripes, One of the most fucking amazing bands in history.
Xx
